James Kerario Laurent

Information Officer & Security Management Trainer, Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC)

    James Kerario Laurent is an Information Officer and a certified Digital Security & Physical Security Management Trainer of Human Rights Defenders. He works with the Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC) which aims to ensure the safety, security and protection of more than 6000 journalists and HRDs in Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.

    Over the past year, James has trained and worked with fellow HRDs from a number of HRNGOs in the East & Horn of Africa region; Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, South Sudan and Tanzaniaa. With the support of key partners like DefendDefenders-Uganda and Frontline Defenders, he has been able to analyze and compare the security situations of HRDs in different countries within the East & Horn of Africa region.

    Despite the relentless efforts made to ensure security for HRDs at National and Regional levels, he believes there is still much work to be done in Africa and at the Global level.

    He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and a Diploma in Security and Protection Management for Civil Organizations and Human Rights Defenders.
