Andrew leads Global Partners Digital’s work on human rights, communications policy and transparency. This includes providing support for civil society groups in Africa, Latin America and South and South East Asia; leading the Secretariat for the inter-governmental Freedom Online Coalition and leading GPD’s major policy work.
He has published widely on different aspects of freedom of expression, written guides on assessing the impact of development programmes on human rights policy for UNDP and UNESCO, of the impact of social media in Asia for UNDP and a study of future trends in South and South East Asia for Oxfam. He also acts as the facilitator for the Freedom Online Coalition – a 30 country alliance (including Sweden) that promotes human rights online.
Andrew was previously director of Article 19, an international human rights organisation and is currently chair of International Media Support in Denmark. He also serves as the Deputy Chair of the Sigrid Rausing Philanthropic Trust; and a management board member of the European Council on Foreign Relations.He was awarded an OBE for services to human rights in January 2003.
